Major-General Solly Mollo

Major-General Solly Mollo was appointed Director-General in April 2010. He studied law and holds two Master’s degrees from the United States Naval Post-graduate School: one in International Security and Civil Military Relations, and the other in National Security Affairs on Regional Studies of sub-Saharan Africa. Major-General Mollo’s previous career experience includes serving as special advisor to the Minister of Public Service and Administration, working as Adjunct Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand in the School of Public and Development Management, and serving as Professor Extraordinaire at the University of Stellenbosch Business School.

He has a strong military background which includes appointments as chief of human resource support for the South African National Defence Force and commandant of the South African Military Academy.

He is still a member of the Military Court of Appeals and president of the South African Military History Commission.

Deputy Director-General: Governance and Strategic Support

Ms Nondumiso Mandisa Pindile Manjezi

Ms Nondumiso Manjezi was appointed to her current position in June 2009. She holds BA and BAdmin degrees and an Honours degree in Development Studies from the University of South Africa.

Her academic qualifications also include a certificate in finance and investment management and a post-graduate diploma in marketing management. Ms Manjezi’s career history includes five years as a programme officer for the Danish International Development Agency before joining the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research as a programme manager for the Department of Trade and Industry’s (dti) Technology for Women in Business Programme.

Her public service experience spans provincial and national departments with her having been a director in the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism in the Eastern Cape, and a chief director in the dti. Ms Manjezi has served in various roles on a number of technical and governance committees within and outside the public sector.

Deputy Director-General: Professional Support

Mr Botshabelo Maja

Mr Botshabelo Maja was appointed to his current position in August 2008. He holds a BA (Hons) and a Master’s degree from the University of the Witwatersrand.Mr Maja has led the review, upgrading, and development of new curricula for junior and middle managers in the public service. From 2003 to 2008, he was the senior executive manager for Labour Market Policy at the Department of Labour.

He currently serves on the Higher Education and Training task team for Seta performance. Mr Maja also served for three years as convener of the Ministerial task team on the reconstitution of technical colleges into Further Education and Training Colleges.

He has published extensively on skills development and related institutional mechanisms, schooling effectiveness and quality, the culture of learning, and higher education with a particular emphasis on historically black institutions.
